2013 Year End Holiday Letter

December 31, 2013

New Year-2014
Happy Holidays to all our friends and family. 2013 has been an incredibly fun and adventurous year for us. During 2013, we took some more trips to some neat places, and attended various autograph/nostalgia conventions. A late addition from last year, Helen and I have been hosting an “Old Time Radio” event since October 2012. We present every other month what is entitled, “An Evening of Old Time Radio” at the “Daily Grind”, a local coffee shop in downtown Mount Holly. And thanks to our friends at the internet radio station, ‘Radio Once More’, we now broadcast our presentation live on their station the Wednesday following our ‘Daily Grind’ presentation. We hope you all tune in to our presentations live on ‘Radio Once More’.

In February we toured the beautiful Paterson Falls and saw the Lou Costello statue in Paterson, NJ. We also celebrated Helen’s Birthday in the “Big Apple” for a weekend where we saw the famous painting the ‘Scream’ at the MOMA, visited Grant’s Tomb, and went atop the ‘Empire State Building’.

In March we attended the first ‘Monkees Convention’ and met Monkee legends Peter Tork and Micky Dolenz. Also in attendance were members of the Brady Bunch, Greg, Peter, Bobby, and Cindy. April brought us the Chiller Theater Expo where Helen & I met David Warner, Van Williams, and John Amos among others. Helen & I saw Monkee legend Mike Nesmith perform live in Rahway, New Jersey. In May we had a few “Nyuks” while we attended another Three Stooges Fan Club Meeting in Ft. Washington, PA. Helen & I enjoyed our first 5K of the year when we participated in the “Color Me Rad” Jersey Shore 5K in Holmdel, NJ. We toured another state capitol in June when we toured the Pennsylvania State Capitol Building and the State Museum in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.

Helen & I celebrated our 10th Wedding Anniversary in July. We spent our ‘Anniversary Weekend’ in Manasquan, NJ where we enjoyed the talented Frank Ferrante in his spectacular one man show, “An Evening with Groucho”. Helen and I saw the ‘Monkees’ in concert at the Count Basie Theatre in Red Bank, NJ. Again, Helen & I participated in the annual “Philly Color Run” in beautiful, historical Philadelphia where everyone starts out with clean white shirts and by the end of the race, the participants become a “Cavalcade of Colors”. Helen lined up juggling lessons for a group of us where we learned the basic fundamentals of juggling.

Helen & I had a blast again reliving the 1960’s in the annual downtown event “Hollystock” in August and we participated in the New Jersey “Color Run” 5K in Englishtown, NJ. Helen and I attended the “Monstermania Convention” in Cherry Hill where we met Danny Glover, Malcolm McDowell, Christopher Lloyd, George Romero, and Carrie Fisher.  I also had a huge thrill attending my 30th High School Reunion. It’s amazing that it was 30 years ago I graduated from Rancocas Valley Regional High School. I had a fantastic time seeing old friends and reminiscing about old times!!!!! Thanks RV Class of 1983, you will always be in my heart!!!!!

In September we again attended the “Mid-Atlantic Nostalgia Convention” in Hunt Valley, Maryland where we met many celebrities including Robert Loggia, Julie Newmar, and Ed Asner. We also got to see more of our convention friends including the wonderful gang from “Radio Once More”. Helen & I along with her team “Helen`s Hikers” participated for the 9th time in the “Walk for Hope” to cure woman`s cancers which started at Campbell`s Field in Camden, led across the Ben Franklin Bridge and ended at Headhouse Square in Philadelphia, celebrating 9 years of Helen being Cancer Free!!!!

October brought us thrills and chills and a trip of a lifetime when Helen & I continued our 10 year Wedding Anniversary Celebration by flying to Honolulu, Hawaii and enjoying a NCL Hawaiian cruise around some of the beautiful Hawaiian islands. We visited the islands of Oahu, Maui, Hawaii (The Big Island), and finally Kauai. We enjoyed all the beauty, and relaxed pace of life in the islands. And we toured the State capitol building adding another capitol to our list. Shortly after we returned from our Hawaiian Cruise, we participated in the WMG5K benefiting teen cancer. Also in October we attended our 2nd Chiller Theatre Expo of the year. This time we met Weird Al Yankovich, Peter Fonda, Lou Ferrigno, and the cast from the 1973 film “Jesus Christ Superstar”. Helen and I also participated along with our friends from “Radio Once More” in the 75th Celebration of the Orson Welles presentation of the “War of the Worlds”. We all gathered at the “Grover`s Mill Coffee Shop” at the ‘Martian Landing Site` in Grover`s Mill, New Jersey.

In November, we attended a ‘Dr. Who` party with friends to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the classic British Sci-Fi series. That brings us to December, where we are busy getting ready for the holdays and looking forward to ringing in the New Year!!!!

As always, many photos of these outings are posted on our Flickr page which is linked to our home page at http://www.JohnnyHolmes.net. We are hoping next year to take a Midwest excursion to Kansas, Missouri, Iowa, and Nebraska and visit some State Capitols, National Parks, and maybe even a couple of Presidential libraries.

Again, we wish you all a Wonderful Holiday Season and a Happy New Year in 2014. Please keep in touch!!! Our very best to all of you!!!  Woo-Hoo!!!!!!
