On our ‘Woo-Hoo Wednesday’ radio show ‘At Home with Holmsey’ recently, I again had the honor and pleasure to chat with author and Christmas TV specials expert, Joanna Wilson on the internet radio station, “Radio Once More”.  Joanna and I chatted about her new book project ‘The Triple Dog Dare: Watching–& Surviving–the 24-Hour Marathon of A Christmas StoryThis book is available from the publisher at 1701 Press.

In the book, Joanna chronicles her personal ‘Triple Dog Dare’ to stay up and watch the entire 24 hour marathon of ‘A Christmas Story’.  During our delightful conversation, Joanna shared some of her personal strategies she used during her quest to stay up for the entire marathon.  It was an amazing discussion about an amazing task, to stay up for the entire 24 hour marathon.  We also played some audio clips from ‘A Christmas Story’ and chatted & reminisced about some of the great scenes in that memorable movie.

The popular 1983 film ‘A Christmas Story’ is based upon the writings and stories of long time radio legend, Jean Shepherd.  Jean’s novel, “In God We Trust: All Others Pay Cash” contains many of the stories that ‘A Christmas Story’ is based upon.  You can listen to some of these memorable stories as told by Jean Shepherd on his radio show from WOR, as originally broadcasted Christmas Eve, 1974.  Enjoy!!!!

Joanna and I also discussed the 1973 made for TV version along with original 1947 version of “Miracle on 34th Street“.  We also played some audio clips and talked about some classic Christmas TV Specials, including, ‘The Littlest Angel‘ (1969), ‘Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer’ (1964), and Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas! (1966).  This year marks the 50th Birthday of the Grinchs’ first appearance on television.

All of these titles and so much more are all covered in Joanna’s book, ‘Tis the Season TV: The Encyclopedia of Christmas-Themed Episodes, Specials and Made-For-TV Movies‘.  As I’ve said before, this book an amazing volume about Christmas TV Shows & Specials and should be on everyone’s shelf that enjoys classic Christmas TV programming.  You can purchase this wonderful book and read many of Joanna’s blog entries at www.ChristmasTVHistory.com.

cartoon-memories

Helen and I had some Looney Tooney fun recently on our ‘Woo-Hoo Wednesday’ Radio Show ‘At Home with Holmsey’ on the internet radio station, “Radio Once More”.  We presented a fun evening of ‘Cartoon Memories’ where we opened up our cartoon theme library and played some medleys from various cartoon studios and we even played some great cartoon theme requests from our listeners including, Tom and Jerry, Popeye, Casper the Friendly Ghost, The Alvin Show, Mighty Mouse, Milton the Monster, The Mighty Hercules, and a few more.

We also played some, (as I call them), Radio Friendly Cartoons, including one from ‘The Flintstones‘, a group featuring some of our favorite Warner Brothers characters such as Sylvester & Tweetie, Porky Pig, Yosemite Sam, and of course the rascally rabbit….Bugs Bunny.

Our last Radio Friendly Cartoon offering was a fun and exciting adventure featuring one of my Hanna-Barbera favorites ……………..Jonny Quest.

I’ve posted some of the fun Toons and Themes we featured during our ‘Cartoon Memories’ celebration during our ‘Woo-Hoo Wednesday’ show on “Radio Once More”.  Enjoy!!!!!

Recently on our ‘Woo-Hoo Wednesday’ Show on the internet radio station, “Radio Once More”, we had local Mount Holly singer, and dear friend, Carie Lynne McCay on as our guest.  Carie has been working on a new CD release that has a very touching and personal story attached to it.  As many of us in the Mount Holly community know, Carie lost her dear son Justice, and the CD is a faith based journey that leads us through the grieving process.  Carie is donating a portion of the proceeds from her CD to various local charities in the Mount Holly, South Jersey area.

Carie and I had a discussion about her wonderful CD, entitled, “I Brought a Little Justice Into This World”.  Below is the entire discussion along with a medley from a few of the songs from Carie’s CD.

Thanks again to Carie for sharing this touching story with us on ‘Radio Once More’ and if you are interested in obtaining more information and purchasing her CD, you can email Carie directly at CarieLynne@yahoo.com.

And many times we’ve flown to various destinations across the country without any problem.  That is……..with the exception of one unforgettable plane trip!!!!  Below I share this incredible story that I still can’t believe happened, but nonetheless…is a true story!!!!
